Testimonial

"Following my work with The Dentistry Business, I'm more focussed and am able to delegate more. I have set up structured systems and really appreciate their input on performance management." Jon Bax, Knutsford

Created by Dentists, For Dentists
The Dentistry Business was “created by dentists for dentists” - and as fellow professionals it is their intention that practices learn from their mistakes and get the most from practice life.
The three-man team has a proven track record having working with a number of NHS, private and mixed practices nationwide and can show dental professionals ways to save time, achieve higher staff retention rates, exceed patients’ expectations, improve their Clinical Governance and significantly improve the bottom-line performance of their practice.

Who Are The Dentistry Business?
Lester Ellman and Carl Parnell are two well-known and respected dentists with solid reputations for building and running private practices.  The third member of the team - Sim Goldblum, brings a wealth of experience in business planning, marketing and finance.  With this level of experience, dental professionals are safe in the knowledge that they will receive sound, practical advice that will help them avoid hazards and make the most of their practice.
Lester Ellman has been a GDP all his working life, running several NHS practices and converting in 1999 to largely private practice.  He is now involved in 1 private practice and has visited and observed hundreds of practices through his roles with the BDA and with PCTs.

Carl Parnell practiced in Macclesfield for many years before converting to Private Practice in 1998. He currently spends some time in practice and the rest of his time advising and coaching practices in aspects of Quality Assurance and Clinical Governance, including preparing for a DRO visit.

Sim Goldblum spent many years working for a multi-national organisation developing its business and honing his skills, particularly in business analysis and in negotiation techniques. Now involved with several industries including dentistry, he spends his time advising and teaching business skills.

Practices Need a Check-Up Too!
Just like a 6 monthly dental check-up, the time often comes when the practice needs a thorough examination too, to ensure that the business is running as smoothly as possible.
Those who feel they could benefit from a practice health check should speak with The Dentistry Business, who offer a wide range of solutions designed to help improve private provision, ranging from small group training seminars focused on specific business topics to individual consultancy on issues affecting an individual practice.
The Dentistry Business’ one-to-one coaching and training is tailor-made to suit the practices individual requirements, so they can get information and advice that is relevant to their individual circumstances.
The three-man team will make sure practices have the vital skills to develop practice systems that work well, control the business so it stays on track every month, organise development plans to attract and retain the best team, improve communication skills and treatment plan management to boost patient acceptance and increase sales.
The Dentistry Businesses are offering a FREE 10 Point Practice Health Check at Stand N12 at Dental Showcase 2009.

Love Dentistry...But Hate Running a Practice!
Most dental professionals would like to make more of their practice, but just need advice and guidance on exactly how to do this.
Most dentists make their career in general practice, but are not properly taught how to run their practice as a business.  Experience can be an expensive and painful teacher, so it is much better to get good professional guidance and advice as early as possible.
Whether practising in the NHS or private sector, being a dentist or a practice manager, The Dentistry Business’ one day seminars - It’s Your Practice, Make the Most of It – provide an opportunity to learn from the ‘real life’ experiences of other dental professionals.
Lester Ellman, Carl Parnell and Sim Goldblum are joined by a Guest Speaker in a series of one day seminars which will cover a range of topics aimed at helping practices understand how to make real improvements to practice life.

These one day seminars are taking place this December at the following locations:

The Dentistry Business are offering a Buy One Get One ½ Price on an - It’s Your Practice, Make the Most of It - one day seminar when visiting them at Stand N12 at Dental Showcase 2009.

BITE Back With The Dentistry Business
In today’s competitive environment, it’s no longer good enough to just be clinically competent - a practice, whether NHS or Private - is just as much about accounts, balance sheets, clinical efficiency and health and safety.

Now in its 4th year, BITE is a practical modular programme that helps dentists make sense of their business, enabling it to grow and flourish.  Taking place for one day a month over a period of five months, BITE is designed to help dentists and practice managers improve practice efficiency and achieve goals.

Using a proven combination of exercises to stimulate and inform, The Dentistry Business reinforce learning with case studies and examples from each of the participant’s practices, whilst encouraging group members to share their experiences, successes and determine areas to be worked on further.

The BITE programme focuses on 5 key areas of study.

The process of change; leadership; understanding your current Practice.

Financial and operational controls; procedures and protocols; managing contracts and if applicable UDA delivery.

How to place the right people in the right jobs with the right skills and attitudes; creating a team and leading it.

Agreed vision and direction, individual and team contributions understood and recognised; performance management, appraisal, training and development.

Understand your patients’ needs and exceed them; define and deliver the patient experience; attract the patients you want; marketing to achieve your aims.

Dentistry in the 21st Century
With an extensive level of knowledge behind them, Lester, Carl and Sim regularly submit articles to the dental press, highlighting their thoughts and opinions of dentistry in the 21st Century, focusing on a wide range of thought-provoking topics, from ‘Retaining Patients and Business Management’ to implementing new ‘HTM 01-05 Guidelines’ in today’s practices.
